Happy Fall! Bon automne!

Dear parents and Guardians,

In September, students familiarized themselves with classroom routines and worked
on back to school vocabulary, as well as the days of the week in French, and how to read the date.

For the month of October, students will continue to expand their vocabulary in French,
with the theme being Fall. In grade 3, students have started a “word of the day”
duotang in which they focus on one french word a day. We will be creating a word
wall together as a visual reminder of all the words we learnt. In grade 5/6, students
have been getting into routine of silent reading for the first 10-15 minutes of the block.
This month we will focus on grammar- the present tense with Fall words being our theme.
Students have been introduced to Duolingo, a website that helps students learn to read French books,
become familiar with vocabulary, and put together French sentences.

In Social Studies, Grade 3 students have started exploring Early Settlers, and will be comparing
Canada then and now. We will be focusing on clothing, food, schooling, and the role of men
and women in the 1700’s compared to today.  In grade 5/6 Social studies, students are continuing
their Federal Elections Political Party projects, which they have been very dedicated towards
completing. They will be presenting their political parties to different classes in the St. Michael
school community, with the intent of hosting the school’s student vote. They will continue to learn
about Government and Canada’s interactions with the Global Communities in October/November.
