January Newsletter

Happy New Year! Bonne Année 2020!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone has had a blessed holiday and a good start to the New Year.

Grade 3:

For the month of January, students will continue writing in their journals using the present tense, and will start to focus on the past tense (j'ai, je suis). We will be working on punctuation, spacing, and using transition words. They will continue working on answering questions orally, reading and writing simple sentences, and making links to their own experiences.

In Social Studies, Grade 3 students will be learning about and investigating the lives of  First Nations in Canada. Some key points they will research are: living environment, clothing, food, and teachings of the First Nations to the Early Settlers.

Grade 5/6:

In January, students will be reading online books on Reading A-Z throughout  and will be having a quiz every Friday.
They will also be writing in the past tense, and be introduced to transition words in order to write short paragraphs.

In Social Studies, students will continue their inquiry-based research project through the Learning Partnership Program. They have identified a long-term or short-term problem in the community, country or the world, and are finding a way to help by creating a product or providing a service.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school or by leaving a note in your child's agenda.
