Happy March!  Dear Parents,    In French , Grade 3 students will be learning about Spring vocabulary . They are reading and writing simple sentences, as well as exploring simple texts. Happy New Year! Bonne Année 2020! Dear Parents and Guardians, I hope that everyone has had a blessed holiday and a good start to the New Year. Grade 3: For the month of January, students will continue writing in their journals using the present tense, and will start to focus on the past tense (j'ai, je suis). We will be working on punctuation, spacing, and using transition words. They will continue working on answering questions orally, reading and writing simple sentences, and making links to their own experiences. In Social Studies, Grade 3 students will be learning about and investigating the lives of  First Nations in Canada. Some key points they will research are: living environment, clothing, food, and teachings of the First Nations to the Early Settlers. Grade 5/6: In January, students will be reading online books on Reading A-Z throughout  and will be having a quiz every Friday. They will also be writing in the past tense, and be introduced to transition word

November, 2019 Dear parents and Guardians, For the month of November, students will start reading short books in French, with the theme being Fall and Family. In grade 3, students continue with the “word of the day” duotang in which they focus on one french word a day. Students will continue writing in their journals in the present tense focusing on what they see, what they like, and what they have ( je vois, j'aime, j'ai). T hey will also be introduced to French centres this month! In grade 5/6, students have been reading books online with partners on Reading A-Z in addition to silent reading for the first 10-15 minutes of the block. This month's grammar focus is the present tense using classroom objects as the theme and writing in their journals. Happy Fall! Bon automne!  Dear parents and Guardians, In September, students familiarized themselves with classroom routines and worked on back to school vocabulary, as well as the days of the week in French, and how to read the date.  For the month of October, students will continue to expand their vocabulary in French, with the theme being Fall. In grade 3, students have started a “word of the day” duotang in which they focus on one french word a day. We will be creating a word wall together as a visual reminder of all the words we learnt. In grade 5/6, students have been getting into routine of silent reading for the first 10-15 minutes of the block. This month we will focus on grammar- the present tense with Fall words being our theme. Welcome to our Class blog! Bienvenue! Check back regularly to find important dates and to be updated on the learning and fun happening in class! Dear Parents/Guardians, My name is Roxan Ghossein, and I will be your child’s French teacher. I am very excited to be joining the St. Michael community this year! I am looking forward to supporting students as they grow in their learning journey and set personal goals. In Grade 5/6,I will be teaching French, Social Studies, as well as Dance and Drama Block 2. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, students have short French (45 minutes) In Grade 3, I will be teaching French and Social Studies Block 3. The children have 75 minutes of French a day.  Our Board’s Spiritual Theme this year is “Love Kindness and Mercy” Micah 6:8. As a class and school community, we will be exploring the Gospel Values to make connections with our everyday lives. Technology will be used regularly in the classroom to stimulate Deep Learning.
